Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Review

Samsung has released its new Android based tablet called the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 [Affiliate Link]. The device seems promising as a lot things have been overhauled especially in the field of hardware. And speaking of hardware Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is equipped with 1.2GHz dual core processor along with the RAM of 1GB. As the name suggests it has 10.1 inch display with 1280 by 800 pixel resolution and display has been augmented with Samsung Touchwiz user interface. Running on Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0, the device comes with the storage capacity of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, each with different price tags. And if this is not enough for you external microSD card support is provided up to 32GB of external storage capacity. The rear 3 megapixel camera is accompanied with a flash; it also has a front facing camera of 0.3 megapixels for video conversation, also equipped with Wi-fi capability and 7000mAh battery. And all this will cost you at £250 or around $380 in the US.

In terms of design Galaxy 2 10.1 bears resemblance to its predecessor Galaxy Note 10.1 and the overall look of the device is not that much of a premium with its glossy white plastic casing. But keeping in mind the price and things it offers with just a trivial cost of £250, these minor aesthetic flaws can be overlooked.

Although the plastic case looks pretty shabby but it does have one benefit and that is portability. Samsung

Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 measures at 9.7mm thin and weighs only 588g which makes it much lighter than its competitor Apple’s iPad. You can easily carry Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and you will barely feel any weight whereas iPad 3 is much heavier than Galaxy 2 10.1 and you can feel holding a heavier device.

As mentioned above it looks pretty similar to its predecessor Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the new Galaxy Tab is definitely much lighter and thinner than the old one. And it also has a bit expanded bezel which is made to house two large speakers. Although the design seems pretty attractive but it is true that Samsung has come up with alternative design because it is just being cautious not to get tangled in any legal quarrel with its nemesis Apple.

As compared to the new iPad, Samsung Galaxy 2 certainly has a better screen. It is integrated with huge 10.1 inch with 1280x800 resolution display, something iPad 3 does not have. On our hands on test it worked quite impressive and we found no issue with the viewing angles as well. Although we did notice little pixel flaw on few occasions but overall it provided clear and vivid display which would certainly provide with sharper visuals for gaming, enhancing the gaming experience.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 [Affiliate Link] does have a larger screen and high resolution display than the iPad but with iPad’s 246ppi pixel density the images on iPad look much more clearer than on Galaxy Tab 2 which has 149ppi pixel density. So, in a nutshell Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is a nice device with the ability to give Apple strong competition.

Nexus 7 vs Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, Which One is Better

A lot of tablets are pounding into the tablet market and it is really astonishing how the market is progressing. Right now in the realm of 7 inch screen there are two bad boys that are dominating the market, one is the and otherSamsung Galaxy Tab 2 [Affiliate Link] is the Google Nexus 7 [Affiliate Link] by ASUS. But which one provides you with a better package and has better specifications, let’s have a look.

Nexus 7 is a bit taller and less wide than Galaxy Tab 2 with the dimensions of 198.5 by 120 by 10.45mm where as Galaxy Tab provides you with 193.7 by 122.4 by 10.5mm. Same goes for both devices when it comes to weight; they both weigh same with little discrepancy as Nexus 7 weighs 340g where as Galaxy Tab 5g heavier, weighing at 345g

As elicited by their names they both offer 7 inch screen but the thing that sets apart these two is the technology In case of Nexus 7, it uses a technology called IPS technology. It provides you with better viewing angles; you can say that is an upgraded form of standard LCS TV. Whereas Samsung utilizes the PLS technology which provides you with better brightness without consuming too much power but in terms of resolution Samsung lack behind with little margin as Nexus  7 hosts a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels whereas Galaxy Tab 2 offers 1024 x 600 pixels, just a minor difference.

But in the field of processor Nexus 7 clearly has the upper hand. Under the hood Nexus 7 offers with a quad-core 1.2GHz Tegra3 processor, sheer power it is and it is almost 3 times faster than that of Galaxy Tab 2’s 1GHz dual core TI OMAP 4430 processor. Not only that Nexus 7 also offers 12 core GeFoerce GPU with its Nvidi Tegra 3 SoC which provides you with sheer graphics, making games much more of a fun experience. Galaxy Tab 2 is based on quad core ARM Mali-400 GPU, but if are looking gaming then Nexus 7 is certainly the machine that gives you better gaming experience.

As far as the storage capacity is concerned Google Nexus offers storage capacity of 8GB and 16GB along with the RAM of 1GB. It has a 1.2 megapixel camera on the back with no front facing camera and offers a battery life of 8 hours with Li-Ion battery of 4325 mAh. On the other hand, Samsung offers internal storage capacity which ranges from 8GB to 32GB and can be expanded up to 64GB along with the RAM of 1GB. It provides you with rear primary camera of 3.15 megapixel and a front facing VGA camera with the battery life of 8.5 hours. Nexus 7 is Wi-fi only so it has both the 4G and 3G connectivity whereas Samsung offers only 3G offers connectivity.

Nexus 7 runs on Jelly Bean Android v4.1 whereas Samsung runs on Ice Cream Sandwich Android v4.0.

So when it comes to choose between Nexus 7 and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, spending $200 on Google's Nexus 7 [Affiliate Link] quad core processor would be a wise choice.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, Competing with the iPad

If there is anyone out there that can compete Apple in the realm of tablets it is Samsung. And the reason behind that is Samsung has been making some pretty good tablets because the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 android based tablet was considered to be the best tablet after iPad. On the other hand believes Samsung has made patent violation which led to the stoppage of Galaxy Tab in US in June. But the two tech giants are still battling on the patent infringement as Apple’s believes Samsung has violated iPhone’s patents.

Now Samsung has come up with something which is even better than Galaxy Tab, the company has released Galaxy Note 10.1 which is based on more powerful engine, you can draw and write on the screen with the help of stylus and it also has a handwriting recognition program that works pretty well. You can also perform multitasking which enables you to perform several actions at the same time. Overall it is a nice device but not nicer than iPad.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 [Affiliate link] comes with a price tag of $499, same as the iPad, for Verizon with 16 gigs of storage capacity where as the 32 gigs would cost you $549. The device is covered in plastic and made solid but not as solid as iPad’s metal casing. On the front two stereo speakers are integrated on the top, there is also MicroSD slot on the upper edge of the device which kicks in additional 32 gigs of storage capacity, something that iPad does not offer.

Galaxy Note 10.1 also comes with an infrared emitter which lets you control TV sets with your tablet. iPad have the similar option which it requires wi-fi home network. But in case of Samsung you do not need any wi-fi just configure your built-in software with your TV set there you go, your tablet become a TV remote.

Adding the extra memory slot and making your tablet as double for TV set is nice but it is not something that will make iPad user upset because iPad does not have these things Thing that would make them upset is if you take away their high resolution crystal clear display, it called Retina display by Apple. In case of Samsung, it provides you with a standard display which is not that bad but certainly nowhere near the iPad’s Retina display.

But Galaxy Note 10.1 does have an upper hand on iPad because of its multitasking. iPad does not allow you to run more than one app at a time. You either have to shut them down or rum them in background whereas Galaxy Note 10.1 lets you perform multiple things at a time. The device gives you the feature called Multiscreen which enable to several apps at the same time including web browser, email program, video player etc. So for instance on one side of the screen you can put a movie on download and on the other side you can read reviews and fun facts about it on Wikipedia.
