Demonoid is BACK!

Downtime

We received a letter from a lawyer represeting the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and we need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this.

Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience.

Well, the CRIA was involved. You can now go to demonoid.com without a problem. Go check it out.

Microsoft's "Falcon" Xbox 360 Is Here. Kind of.

If you're like us, you've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Microsoft's "Falcon" Xbox 360s, well, now they're here. Apparently. The guys over at the Xbox official forums have noticed that the Halo edition 360s may just be the Falcons we've all dreamed about. The Falcon Xbox 360, by the way, has a 65nm CPU and is supposed to run cooler and, ideally, not die after three days, which is a nice change. The posters in the forums have torn theirs apart to show you what the innards of a Falcon may look like. Hit the link below to check out the pics. [Xbox Forums]

Nice I think I'll get that instead of the an old XBOX 360 at least it would be a better speed!!

“Heroes” and “Prison Break” Torrents Tracked by MiiVi.org

The latest episodes of Heroes and Prison Break have been downloaded over a million times already. However, quite a few paranoid downloaders noticed that the .torrent files, apparently released by EZTV, were using the MiiVi.org tracker. A trap perhaps?

No, Miivi.org has nothing to do with the alleged honeypot project from MediaDefender which was hosted on MiiVi.com. On the contrary, the Miivi tracker is a project in part sponsored by The Pirate Bay and other BitTorrent sites.

Don't they know they have already been exposed at Media-defenders with a new name and new look. Hmm, wonder when they will release that if they will at all!!

Microsoft Announces Internet TV Service And Extenders Allowing HDTV Access & More

Microsoft have announced the forthcoming release of Internet TV, a feature which will allow people to enjoy a range of television and video content on their PCs and TV sets without a TV tuner in their PC.

On September 28th 2007, US users of Windows Vista Home Premium edition and Windows Vista Ultimate edition will find the new beta release inside Media Center.

I have been playing around with this and find one it is really slow on a wireless connection and two, most of programs aren't even out yet. I will keep people posted!

iPhone 1.1.1 "bug" unleashes music over Bluetooth

The iPhone 1.1.1 update has a hidden little surprise for y'all: Bluetooth audio streaming is now available off of your iPhone for whatever you darn please, meaning you can finally listen to music from the phone wirelessly. Oddly enough, this "function" has been unleashed by a Visual Voicemail bug that leaves Bluetooth audio on even after you've left the Voicemail interface. Of course, it's only mono audio, and the audio keeps playing out of your built-in speaker -- if you plug in headphones to cut off the speaker you'll lose Bluetooth streaming as well -- but it's nice to see Apple forking over some "should have been there in the first place" functionality accidentally to go along with all that stuff of the same ilk 1.1.1 took away from us.

I wonder if this is going to stay?

Vista SP1 Recovery Disc

One of the new administrative tools Windows Vista Service Pack 1 provides is the ability to create a recovery disc. At first, the name might fool you into thinking the type of discs system manufacturers provide to you when you purchase a new computer to restore your computer to a factory state, but this is not that. A more appropriate name would be “Windows repair disc”.

To be blunt, this tool creates merely a slimmed-down Windows installation disc. It takes a normal Windows installation disc image and strips out all the “installation” functionality leaving only the repair tools and common system files.

I wonder how this will work with Windows and the DRM? Will it even be left in the final version? I would think companies are going to like this.

I've tried this little program and it works without a problem. It doesn't work on Fat32 or Fat16. It however works well with Vista.

Is Demonoid coming back online?

My BT client has just established a connection with the Demonoid tracker! The site at demonoid.com is still down however. If this is indeed the tracker back online, it is very encouraging news!

As stated before the tracker is working and I would love to know what happened did the CRIA take down it and they just switched servers or what?

Kubuntu 7.10 Beta

Today I installed the beta for Kubuntu 7.10 and I am surprised how well it worked with the integration of the old and new. I do admit there are always going to be some problems with it. As with anything that says beta you have stuff that always goes wrong. There is this one problem with it that I am going to have figure out what. It says that it can't update because it is being used.

They updated the Firefox extensions to include ADblock Plus and some very nice tools with Ubuntu. You can download more extensions with this then you could before. Firefox loads a little quicker. It also has several other features that is best left for you to explore.

It Handles the non-free devices a whole lot better. It shows you have a device that can be updated with that little window. If this device is restricted it also tells you this.

All in all I've have to give this a pretty good update for Ubuntu, I'll be curious to see what else I'll find when I get even deeper into the system. I do know I like the graphics they added. It almost has an XP feel to it. If you would like to know more just visit the website and try it for yourself.

Crysis Gametrailers FPS

I am going to get this game soon, and thought the trailers look awesome. It can run on both Directx 9 and 10. 3 year old systems should be able to play this game. It is a Windows only game for right now maybe it will be turned into a Linux game also.

Novell credits Microsoft for soaring Linux sales

Novell says its Linux business has grown by 243 percent over the last three quarters, and it largely credits its deal with Microsoft.

Novell has reached $100 million in revenue from Linux over the nine-month period, thanks to the close working relationship it has had with Microsoft since the two companies signed their collaborative deal in November.

I only have one thing to say, Thank you little Penguin it makes a stand in something that actually works.

Gamers spend about $170M on 'Halo 3'

SEATTLE - Video game enthusiasts in the United States plunked down about $170 million on copies of "Halo 3" in the 24 hours after the Xbox 360 game went on sale, Microsoft Corp. said Wednesday.

"'Halo 3' has become a pop-culture phenomenon," Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios, said in a statement.

The game, which was developed by Microsoft-owned Bungie Studios, completes the saga of helmet-clad Master Chief and his quest to save humankind from aliens.

Fans pre-ordered more than 1.7 million copies of the game, and more than 10,000 stores opened at midnight Monday to start selling, according to Microsoft. The much-anticipated launch was marred only slightly by reports that limited-edition packaging left scratches on game disks.

"The initial demand we've seen for 'Halo 3' has been astounding," Jill Hamburger, vice president of movies and games at Best Buy, said in a statement.

Wow, I didn't expect this did anyone else. I'd figure Halo 3 wouldn't of top this high of a record!

Destroy all phones: Portable GSM phone jammer

Want to know why I don’t got to the movies anymore? Because consistently and without fail all the times I’ve gone in the past two years I’ve sat behind or in front of — always very near — people talking on the phone. Seriously. So in leiu of throwing Junior Mints at them, I suspect I’ll just get this portable phone jammer for $166 and cut them off at the source.

I don't suggest buying this because it is illegal in the USA and I personally don't like the idea of someone jamming my cell phone in case of an emergency! You can buy it in Japan.

iPhone Re-Reviewed (Verdict: Don't Buy)

It's about 3 months after the iPhone launch, and happy with the improvements, I was planning to change our "Wait" verdict to a full-on and rabid "Buy". That wasn't because of Apple, but because of the cool apps being offered by independent developers. All that came to an end yesterday after the new Apple firmware 1.1.1 neutered the handset. Sure, unlocked iPhones were broken. But more importantly, Apple wiped away the powerful programs that helped push the iPhone to greatness. With this, I'm going to have to move our recommendation from "Wait" to "Don't hold your breath." I'm done with this handset until third-party apps come back.

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/iphone/iphone-re+reviewed-verdict-dont-buy-302075.php

Well Gizmodo pretty much sums up what I have being thinking, It's not worth buying due to no Third party applications. When they let people use third party applications then It will be an Awesome phone, but until then it isn't worth buying

Microsoft says to extend XP sales for five months

The world's largest software maker introduced Windows Vista in January with the plan to phase out sales of its predecessor, Windows XP, by January 30, 2008.

Microsoft said it decided to extend XP sales in response to feedback from computer manufacturers who said there were customers who still wanted to buy the older operating system.

http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/20070928/microsoft-windows-xp.htm

I think this is showing us where Vista is going, down down down. If you want to read the complete article go ahead. I'll let you decide for yourself.

Some Apple Geniuses Restoring Bricked iPhones

You know damn well that when you unlocked your iPhone, it’d only be good until the next software update. Don’t kid me. You knew it.

Now your iPhone is an expensive paperweight and Apple says you voided your warranty. Try to take it to an Apple Store or send it back to Apple and you’ll get denied. Lucky for you, some Apple employees working the Genius Bar have compassion and will restore your iPhone back to its original, locked state. Hey, be grateful and take what you can get.

No word yet if the restored iPhones were even originally bricked. Some people are even claiming that Apple employees are straight up swapping units with brand new ones for customers. If your iPhone got bricked from the updated, I highly suggest running to your local Apple Store(s) and getting it fixed before store managers come down on employees with great fury.

Oh I bet Apple isn't happy about this!! I hope the people at the Genius bars aren't going to get fired over this.
