Kindle Fire 32 Gb Pre-Ordered!

Amazon Kindle Fire 32 GB!

I Pre-Ordered the Kindle Fire HD 7", Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 32 GB [Affiliate Link] which isn't going to be until October 25, 2012, 249$. It looks promising and I really can't wait to test it out. It does Cost about the same as the Nexus 7 16 GB [Affiliate Link] version but you get way more room with this Kindle.  They really packed this Kindle full of great stuff.   Some of the things I am really interested in are:

  • Whispersync [Affiliate Link]
  • X-Ray Movies Database (IMDB)
  • Front Facing Camera (Wonder if I can use UStream TV With this?)
  • Kindle Free Time (I know my Kids will like to play games and this is one way they can and I can control it!
  • Portability -- I hate caring my Laptop everywhere, this will decrease the need for that.  Unless I buy the Bluetooth wireless keyboard, I will still my laptop for some stuff!

Although they have the Kindle Fire HD 8.9", Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi [Affiliate Link], It does cost 299$ and that seems kind of out of my price range.   I can't wait to explore my Kindle Fire HD Fire when it comes out. I won't know more about it until I get it but when I do, I will definately talk about it some more.  I might even use Youtube ore Some other service if I can to see how well the picture for the front facing camera.   I can see that they are trying to get ahead of Google when it comes to portability.  .

Prediction: Amazon Video on Demand will come to Android!

The Kindle Fire!

As many of my readers know, I once made a prediction about the Kindle Fire and it really came true!  So I'm here today to give a few reasons why Amazon will eventually come to the Android Market Place in reguards to video on demand and their Amazon Prime Membership [Affiliate Link] benefit! Nothing I've say is always going to be true but it will be a very real possibility.

Amazon VOD is available on Apple!

Even though this is really new, Amazon recently announced that you can use their Video on Demand (VOD) on any Apple Product, such as the Ipad [Affiliate Link].  That isn't really a surprise in my book, I knew they would need to come to to the Apple Ipad but never knew when they would.   It was really something that was going to have to happen because of their need to grow.   They want people to sign up to their Prime Membership and thus people would want to be able to watch their shows and other such movies on a portable device such as an Ipad!

Kindle Fire sales Slow Down!

After their big launch of the Kindle Fire [Affiliate Link] last year, we are seeing sales of the Fire declining.  The Price point of the Kindle is far cheaper to buy than an Ipad and thus people are looking for a cheap alternative to view their movies and shows without paying for the high Priced Apple Ipad!  This isn't nothing new when it comes to competition.  So it makes only sense that Apple and Amazon will want to get the most market share for their products and show people that there is more than one way to stream or watch shows that you've bought.

Android's are getting more popular!

With Android Devices being activated and having over 700,000 people using their devices according to a report Dec 2011, we can only assume the number is growing every day or every hour.  As you can see we are seeing a growth in how many people have access to an Android device and thus it seems that we have no access on Android to have VOD from Amazon [Affiliate link].  We are seeing more and more devices that are going to be portable on Android in the near future and we already have a really nice portable device called the Nexus 7 [Affiliate Link], which I've heard is very popular because of it being light weight and very versatile!

Amazon Versus Netflix!

As Amazon competes with Netflix we are seeing that Amazon isn't on Android but Netflix is, thus if Amazon want to get people to use their service they will undoubtedly want to draw people away from Netflix and make it available every where.   I'm almost certain that Amazon is wanting to provide the best service available and thus will want to take over on the streaming front.  In order to do that, they will not be able to get ahead of Netflix until they capture some of the Android Users who don't have a Kindle Fire or who don't use the Apple Ipad!

These are just a few reasons why Amazon will be looking to be on all Android Devices in the coming few months.  I'm really not cerain as to when that will happen but I know it will be very soon and thus we only have to wait and be patient.

Nokia Lumina Phones work with Straight Talk Sim!

Straight Talk Makes it easier!

If you've wanted to have another phone besides what is offered on their website.   This is the time to invest in a phone of your choice to use with Straight Talk.  According to their website this is what they say:  "BRING AN AT&T OR T-MOBILE COMPATIBLE GSM PHONE, OR AN UNLOCKED GSM PHONE make sure it operates on our compatible frequencies".  Your probably wonder some questions.  I'm here to answer them.

What is the Compatible Frequencies?

The Frequencies range from 380 to 1800 spectrum and thus if your looking for an unlocked cell phone, you can pretty much buy a phone with that range and it should work.   So if your like me and wanting to go to Amazon [Affiliate Link] or other places that might have an unlocked phone, this is the first thing you should look for.  You will see something like this on Amazon : "GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900" which is what you are looking for.

Which phones work with the Straight Talk Sim card?

This will very from manufacturer to manufacturer but most of the time this will work with:

As you can see there are quite a few that you can use.   I've did some of the research but these are the ones that look promising at Amazon [Affiliate Link], although these aren't a guarantee this is at least a place to start checking out and maybe buying.   If you know of a good phone that works with Straight Talk, please leave a comment.   You will also need to buy the Sim card from Straight talk, which is 15$ dollars without shipping.   Although this could save you a lot in the long run.   You must decide if it is worth the cost or if you just want to buy a phone from Straight Talk directly and not worry about having an unlocked phone.

I've giving you the basic understanding of which phones SHOULD work but if they don't it isn't my fault.   I am just trying to help direct you in the right direction.   If you really have more questions you can leave a comment and I'll try to answer them.

Being more Honest with my Affiliate Links!

Google Affiliate Network Summit 035 Google Affiliate Network Summit 035 (Photo credit: Affiliate

Testing the Waters!

A friend told me, a couple days ago that I should be telling my readers when I have affiliate links.  He said I would would get even more sales if I were to be a little more honest with which ones are actually the ones that I make money off of!   It would better help those decide if your going to be a a good blog or not.   I really didn't have much to say on the matter because I didn't know what to say. I am sure there will always be those who will not tell you.   I thought it was quite obvious when I didn't tell you but then I forgot I was hiding my affiliate links, not to be dishonest but to prevent programs and virus from taking away from all the work I have done.   I know there will always be people who will got the site directly and not give the site the credit.  I understand that, and somewhat expect that.

Honesty is the best Policy!

That being said, if you ever come to one of my posts and you see the (Affiliate links) or (Affiliate link) then it will be linked to this post.   So you can read about my honesty and understand that I am working really hard at changing.   Here is how this will work:

  • Reviews -- I promise to my readers that I believe in the review of the product and that it is a recommendation from me.

  • Reimbursement -- Hosting isn't cheap now a days, that is I put up my Affiliate links and also to try supplement my working income.

  • If Gifted to me -- I will clearly state that in my post and my review will no be swayed by the free gift of the item.  If it sucks, you will know about it and if it is something useful then you will also know about it.  I may however have affiliate links for the item.

  • Nicer URLS -- even though I have hidden the urls and you have to click the URL to go the affiliate site in question, it is because the URL aren't really neat and tidy.   If you feel offended because you can't see URL then please feel free not to click those links.  (I wouldn't want to see http://www.amazon.com/blah/blah/blah/blah/etc, anyways and I bet you don't either)

  • Gift Cards -- If you are wanting me to review a certain item and it is on Amazon or some other place then I will gladly accept a gift card through email(First name @ this domain).  However if it is something else please don't hesitate to email me.

  • Review UNITS -- Same as Gifted cards, if your wanting me to review an item but don't know where to send it.   Please email me and I'll discuss with you where to send it.  (First Name @ this domain)  Please bear in mind that I may not give a nice review, so I make no PROMISES and there are no expectations.

Prove to me!

I've done the unthinkable and stopped hiding all my links on this site.   So if you want me to continue to do it this way,  I will need to see a positive out come.   I was making money hiding sites links and not telling people about them being affiliate links.   Now I don't want to see a drop in sales and money by being honest.   Help support my love to blog and being able to read about the stuff that matters to you.   Just like Glasses USA (Affiliate link) matters to me because I have to wear glasses everyday and I can't afford to go buy some really expensive pairs of glasses.   They have been the one source for me, when I need to buy new glasses.  If you find a post that you really think is good, then don't be afraid to share it on Facebook or Twitter.   Those are one ways to show your support of my blog.

Nothing shows support like sharing a post!

Why Opt-in is better than Opting-Out!

Starbucks Touchscreen Storefronts Image by DavidErickson via Flickr

Opting-out on Anything Worries me!

If your like me, you probably have had those experiences where you were automatically added to a list or even something like a spam list.   I've probably seen it all if you ask me, I know I've seen those phones calls where I get pitched an idea or even trying to glean some other personal information from me.   That is what really worries me sometimes, not knowing about my privacy and who all has my personal information.

Someone reader over at the GNC blog commented and said "I wouldn’t mind if starbucks comes to my place and give me a free morning coffee."  When I read that comment it made me think about how much some people like to just be auto-subscribed to emails and charged money for things they didn't asked to be charged for.

Differences between Starbucks and Amazon!

Hey lets face it, I wouldn't mind a free coffee now and then.   Starbucks isn't going to find you and give your a free coffee because that would go under the stalking rule.    They probably don't even have your credit card on file to charge your account if you buy something else along side that coffee in the first place.   You have physically be in the store to even have a chance at getting a free coffee.

Amazon on the other hand, in my opinion has some things that can be trouble down the road.  They have your personal information in a database, which could lead to identity theft.   I really don't think it is a real possibility but I have to at least throw that out and say it.   They also have your Credit Card on file to charge for things on their website, Kindle, and Roku Box.  It's called the One Click buy, you don't have much security but a pin that someone could easily guess or keep trying until they get it right.   Although Amazon has some great policies in place to let you get your money back that is, if you can prove that it was malicious and that you didn't authorize them.

Let me Opt in!

Amazon could of easily prevented this debacle in the first place by sending out email to a select few people offering them the chance to try this Kindle Fire Compass and telling them what will happen if they do try it out.   How much it would cost after the 14 days of trial are over with and what the main idea about the product.   If they just did that, no one would of minded to try it out.   Heck, I would of jumped aboard if they ask me but I was one of the lucky few who didn't get picked.

My Blog will always be Opt-in!

I know one thing, I will never give out your information to anyone.   For that matter will ever send out unsolicited emails from me. The one reason you might want to consider subscribing to my email campaign is to keep up to date on any new posts.   If you want to opt in and get my updates sent to your emails please join the list.

What is Amazon Kindle Compass and why would I want it? (Breaking News)

Angry Birds on the Kindle Image by Tim Wilson

Conscience is a man's compass. -- Vincent Van Gogh

I don't know what the fuss is about but I thought it was something we should at least talk about! It seems that Amazon has made a bad mistake when it comes to trying to get people to Autosubscribe. This is something that I have said in the past but you know how companies are they think it is best for the consumer and want something good to come from this.  I've been reading about how people all around the world are being auto subscribed, and you can go and check it out at the amazon Discussion board.
Some bloggers are already talking about this and I wonder why it isn't being blogged about more.

Amazon Bought the Domain in November!

I am unsure why they'd buy the domain in November but that just may be the tip of the iceburge.   This seems to be something they've been developing for quite some time and until I actually get to see what it is.   You can check the domain on the Whois and see for yourself.   Some speculate that it is something do with a actual compass on your Kindle like the Ipad has.   I don't know if that is what this is or if it will be something totally different, only I time will tell but I do know that it has to be something that you will pay for on a monthly subscription like a magazine or news articles.

Has anyone actually seen it on the Kindle Fire?

That is the next question I have, what is it and what does it do?   I wouldn't mind finding more out about this but there is very few things out on the web about it.   Don't forget to email me at paul[at]paulstechtalk[dot]com if you find out anything else about this and I'll be sure to watch the comments.

Update:

Found something on the Amazon Discussion board that might clear some of it up:

I just got this email from Customer Service after a quick call they let me know it would not be charging me,but they could cancel it anyway.

"Hello,

The Kindle Compass is an editorial magazine designed to help customers get the most out of their Kindle reading experience. It is delivered wirelessly to Kindle devices, free of charge.

We are currently delivering the magazine to a random subset of Kindle customers. Customers who wish to unsubscribe from The Kindle Compass can do so from a link in the last section of the magazine, or from the Manage Your Kindle Subscriptions page at www.amazon.com/manageyourkindlesubscriptions

At this time we are not able to subscribe additional customers, but we look forward to making The Kindle Compass available to more customers in the future.

Thanks for your interest in Kindle."

Prediction: Tech Gifts for 2012 to look for!

Radio Icon in iPod

Looking Ahead!

I know this is going to be a really silly post to some of you but I thought it was something that I like to talk about with my family and thus I thought it was about time to talk with it about my blog.

I know this will probably not be right or even close but I thought it was about time to at least try to see predict what we will see in the coming year and maybe just maybe I will be close.   I seriously doubt I will be right or on target as some will say but then again.   I was right about the Kindle Fire prediction before it was even announced.

Think ahead for 2012

I don't know what people are going to think but I will give a few insights as to which technology favorites we have now will be even better next year.

Kindle Fire (Affiliate link) --  We will see more screen size, I would think it could get as big as 10.1 or maybe just maybe a 9.7 inch screen.   I don't know if that will happen but I see this as a possibility.   I also think we will have a bigger storage capacity and also maybe even an outlet for a SD or Micro SD card.   All this makes sense because of them wanting to compete with Apple over their Ipad (Affiliate link).

Android Devices -- I see it becoming even bigger than they have been possibly even bigger than an laptop.   I also think we will start seeing more better quality and manufacturers are going to not want to produce quantity but quality.

Apple Struggles -- I don't see anyway around this.   In the coming years because of Steve Jobs Die in 2011 (Affiliate link) and Apple not knowing where their next big thing will come from.   Steve Jobs was the innovator for the company and I think they will have to remake their image but that will be time consuming.

More Pads and less desktops -- I hate to say this but I am going to say that we will see more kids and parents in the future carrying data pads such as Android or even Ipads around town or to wifi hotspots because they are a lot less bulkier and easier  to carry.

Everything will be cloud based --  More and more people will be using the cloud to store they data and private information and thus will need more space and more ways to protect that information.   This will be a security nightmare but I am sure some good companies will blossom from this.

This is some of the stuff that I thought I would point out and hopefully we will see it come true in the future at least to some.   I don't want to see Apple stocks go down even though I don't have any of their stocks it is however going to be a struggle for them as well as other companies in the coming year.

Cricket Wireless now Offers unlimited Nationwide service!!

Cricket Wireless is now offering Nationwide Coverage for there text and talk. So Iwanted to talk about this a little to help people who might need a little help understanding this. Some of the most common questions I am seeing are:

Do I need to do anything to get nationwide coverage?

If you are constantly on the road each month you will need to sign up for the new plan by dialing *228 on you phone. This will program the phone to allow you to go outside of your home coverage area. It will also change your plan, if you already haven’t changed to the new to plan. If you were on the $25 a month plan you will automatically be bumped up to the $30 dollar plan and this goes down the line.

What phones do I need?

If you haven’t already you should check to make sure you have a Tri-band Phone and if not consider buying a Tri-band phones. You can go and find the ones that are Tri-band Phones on Crickets Phone page.

What if I didn’t call *228 and now My phone won’t work?

You can always call 1-800-922-5159 and see if they will change your plan but other than that will have to wait to get to a Cricket Coverage area (Not nationwide) to program your phone. You can talk to Cricket Wireless customer support and see what they have to say about this. I suspect though you will have to wait.

Can I use this phone if I live in the Nationwide Coverage area?

Most definitely yes, You will have to double check with Cricket Coverage area to make sure you are truly in the nationwide coverage area but other than that you can order your phone through Cricket Wireless and they will ship it to you for free.

Do I have to buy it the Phone from Cricket Wireless?

No You don’t, you can always check out the Amazon website and check to see if they have Any unlocked Tri-band phones. There you can find some cheap Tri-band phones that can be used for Cricket Wireless. You may have to call Cricket Wireless to verify that they can do this but i see no reason why it shouldn’t work!!

I wanted to let people know about the New nationwide coverage area for Cricket Wireless, and would love to hear your experiences when it comes to roaming? leave a comment and let people know.

See you Friday!!
