These sites gets installed in unsuspecting computers by way of exploits, backdoors, Trojans, or unsafe downloading practices. This usually means that if you have it you should remove it by any means necessary because this software has been know to cause more and more trouble as time goes by. This software is fake ware, it tries to tell you have a virus and that they can get rid of it. In fact, this software is not designed with Antivirus engine in it but to illicit pop ups and warning to raise the users security concerns about the computer in question. Scareware List for July 31, 2009

Antivirussystempro1

Looks like they went out and made a quite a few domains lately so Here they are:

  • antivirus-live-pro.org ([intlink id="1837" type="post"]Antivirus Pro Scareware[/intlink])

  • internetantivirusplus.com (Fake Antivirus)

  • mybestantivirusplus.com

  • securesoftwarebill.com (Rogue System Security Antivirus)

  • yourantimalware.com

  • totalsurfguard.com

  • systemsecuritysupport.com

  • stabilitysuite.com

  • powersystemstability.com

  • onlinecentersupport.net

  • identitysecuritysuite.com

  • etotalsecurity.com

  • defenseinteractive.com

  • defenseinteractive.com

  • antispyinteractive.com

  • antispyavailable.com

  • protectionsystem.org(Like [intlink id="1837" type="post"]Antivirus Pro Scareware[/intlink])

  • realbestantivirusplus.com

Remember these sites are active and are scaring people into buying or installing there product, you should not go to these sites. As you can see the Scareware Writers and domains have been busy this week and have made these to use in this weekend I can bet on that.   These sites are trying to [intlink id="3607" type="post"]scare you into buying there product or installing there fake antivirus software[/intlink].    If you are constantly inundated with pop up windows warning you have a virus or trojan and showing you a load of viruses or trojans on your screen. They will probably ask you to install software or buy the product that would be a big waste of time and could possibly install even more malware and also could loose money. You should never download any software from sites you don't know or buy from sites that you've never heard from.

List of fake Antivirus Sites for July 27, 2009

I have found some other sites that are fake Antivirus:

personalantivirus3

  • anti-malware-pro.com (Rouge AntiMalware Software)

  • allowsecurityshield.com ([intlink id="3713" type="post"]Scareware site[/intlink])

  • securedvirusproscanner.com ([intlink id="3607" type="post"]Personal Antivirus[/intlink])

  • antivirus-best-scannerv2.com ([intlink id="3607" type="post"]Personal Antivirus[/intlink])

Most of these sites try to scare you into either installing software or buying their fake software.   Some of these sites have used exploits to install a Trojan or two to have your browser redirect to these sites.   This means that there might be more than one virus or Trojan on your system

List of Malware Sites for July 26, 2009

personalantivirus3

These malware authors have been busy and made a few new sites to scam people here they are, Remember these sites are active and should be avoided:

  • protectionsystemlab.com ( Scareware Protection System)

  • secure-antivirus-scanv3.com (Personal Antivirus Scareware)

  • scanonlinedirect.com

These sites listed try to get you to download a program sometimes called install.exe, Setup.exe, and are most likely just a way to get you even more infected with malware.  Other sites want to you upgrade which means you probably have some kinda of malware on your system to begin with.   These sites are what I call scareware and will always try to scare you into either buying or installing software.   These sites don’t do anything else but try to make money or get your system infected for them to use.  A couple of these sites require you to quit out of your browser by going to your Taskmanager.   These fake antivirus softwares don’t really protect your system at all but only to annoy the end user into giving these guys a free ride. Two of the sites are now redirecting to Adult Friend Finder, but still should be avoided because of the possibility of an exploit code trying to take over you computer.

Threat to System : Moderate

Antispy.microsoft.com is another Scareware

It looks like the people who invented "[intlink id="3805" type="post"]Antivirus System Pro[/intlink]" have made another site looking like it was a Microsoft site:

Antivirussystempro1

It looks like they use hijack your host file and inseart "Antispy.Microsoft.com" to the host file  with the IP address of "209.44.111.62"  There is no real website at Microsoft with that url so if you get this you have a some kind of trojan or virus on your system.   By using the domain name of Microsoft.com the chance that people will believe this is actually from Microsoft and buy this fake software is higher than with it having its own domain.

[ad]They seem to have incorporated the [intlink id="3872" type="post"]Site Adviser Scareware tactics[/intlink] these tactics seem to be a new way for them to look Official almost like they are the read deal and should there for be taken for the REAL Thing.   You should [intlink id="3884" type="post"]Download SUPERAntiSpyware[/intlink] and See if you can find the problem.   If that doesn't work you can always remove this threat manually.

This has the same ideas as the "ITsecure.Microsoft.com" Malware, they both look like they are from Microsoft and have modified the host file but are really Scareware trying to trick you into buying there fake antivirus and you would be loosing money.   I would recommend you checkout my [intlink id="2205" type="page"]Malware resources[/intlink] and find out what I recommend to prevent this from the future.

Hulu Days of Summer Clues for July 6 thru 10, 2009

Ok So we hit it off well this week now they seem to want to give us some really hard ones.   So I figure we can disqus this in the forums or other in comment sections.  I want to hear what you think:

So Let's Start this off,  There are Some good Possibilities:

If anyone can think of something different let me know these are just a few ideas that I think they could be but if you have something different I will surely entertain the idea.

I've got a Feeling this week they are using Anagrams but I can't figure this one out just Yet.  They used a characters name for the anagram so if Anyone can help solve these let me know!!!  I do I found it.   Let me know what you think leave comments and such!!

*Tuesday Update*

Can't Figure out the "A Cornmeal Viper" but I know it is an Anagram so if someone figures that out let me know!!  We have 1 out 2 done.

*Wednesday Update*

As you can see I figured out two of the clues the only one that I am having problems with is "A Moan Cough Ink".  So If someone wants to help me figure that one out, just leave a comment and I will get it.

*Thursday Update*

Finally Figured it out after they brought out the list for Thursday.  It was a Japanese name and movie so no wonder I couldn't figure out.  Well we aren't perfect, I suppose!!  More to come!!

Not sure what this new clue is "Valiant Rim", I look around and check to see if it was an Anagram.  If it is a Chinese or Japanese name I won't be able to unscramble it.   It could be something that has to do with Mountain Biking but I am unsure!!

Hulu Days Of Summer are here again

huludaysofsummer09

So we have it here right now, and it starts out really good.   You can watch Stargate SG1 Season 1 through 4 the whole summer.  The last of the Mohicans was the frst movie they brought out for this event.  I rember last years one where we had to guess the coming week.  Some of the ones that I did last year were:

Now I don't know all that will come this summer but I would of liked to have clues like we did last year. That would of been really fun.  Oh well, I will keep watch on this and see what comes from this.   I also have been using the Hulu Desktop more and more, it seems to work well with [intlink id="3059" type="post"]A600 Cricket modem[/intlink] really well.  For those who have it, I would suggest using the lowest quality of playback for using it.  It really isn't bad quality for watching shows and such on.   You really don't have to worry to much about buffering.  Although you should check your settings on the [intlink id="1009" type="post"]player and change them[/intlink].

On a side note this week and next I will be really busy so I don't know if I will update as much as I have in the past.  This is summer afterall so it might be off and on this summer until everything goes back to normal in the fall.  I will update the blog when I can this summer, so don't you fret to much!!

Microsoft sends out KB955430 to get ready for SP2

kb955430

This looks like it is to help with some problems with other issues of updates that they have been having.  I am unsure of why they are wanting to install this update but it doesn't look to be harmful.  I am betting this is to fix a flaw that has been exploited by the warez community to make them either pay for there copy or go with another OS.   For the one fact that this "will enable future updates" and "This update may be required before selected future updates can be installed".

[ad#cricket-right-ez]I went to  KB9555430 support page:

Updates to the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 installation software are included in this update. The installation software is the component that handles the installation and the removal of software updates, language packs, optional Windows features, and service packs. This update is necessary to successfully install and to remove Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 on all versions of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. This update is not necessary to successfully install the service pack if you install the full file version of the service pack. The full file version of the service pack includes this update.

This is probably to get ready for the Service Pack that they are going to release soon for Vista. So I am guessing this will be required when the Service Pack comes out.

Understanding Adsense for the Beginner

So you have a website and you'd like the site to pay for itself. That can be arranged it however depends on your website performance. You see you won't make a lot of money if you don't have several things going for you. I thought I share with you my experience with making money through Adsense. As you saw, I made enough money to pay for the website for 5 years. It isn't hard to make money it is however very difficult to keep getting the money. Most people don't know the tricks to making money with Google's Adsense.

I'm here to help you out a little with understanding it and getting even more money from your adsense.   So here we are 3 months into to putting Adsense seriously on my site and let's take a look shall we:

My earnings for 3 months

As you can see I started off quite slowly as I figured out how to best do it but gained momentum after that.    First Month I made $17.19 and the Second Month I made $45.57, the last month I made $64.99 totaling $127.75 leaving me with 16.75$ from the few previous months that I tinkered with Adsense.   So where do you start?  I found that to be the hardest part, because of the complexity of where I could put the ads.   I tried having strips breaking up the text in my blog post that really didn't get me hardly any clicks.  Then I started to incorporate the Adsense into the posts.  I learned how to do it through a great blog post and I'll talk about that later.   Here's what you need to know right now though:

    [ad#ad2-right]
  • Create good content --  This goes without saying that if you don't have good content people will never find your site.   There are a multitude of ways to create content.   Some of the most useful for me is How-to, finding a Niche, and Also just blogging about what you passionate about.   These will often draw people to your website.

  • Gjaylaramieet people to link to your post --  This will help with search engines because they do some math to figure out if your a real site and how trustworthy your site is on the internet.

  • Use Microblogging --  It is well known people use Twitter, Friendfeed, and others a like to tell people what they post about.   It can be great place to help promote your blog and get people to come more and more to your site.

  • Try not to annoy the users with Ads -- This is the most important if you want people to come back to your site you should make sure you don't send people away from your site.  People will not want to come back if you annoy them to much.   So it is essential that you keep them happy.

  • Find a good blog theme -- A good theme helps bring people to your site by making it easier to read and find what they are looking for.  You might also consider making a sneeze page to keep people coming back to your site.  This will help your readers and make it more of your own.  You might also want to buy a theme for your blog sooner or later.

With These tips and tricks you too could be on your way to having a great blog.   I would be willing to bet that soon I will be triple that amount if I keep up with what I am doing.   I hope you tell people about this blog and let people know how good this blog is for you.   Remember only you can prevent virus infections.

Security Researchers warn of potential flaws in Windows

I read an article today from Techworld. I wanted to Discuss this in detail. I also found some links that suggest that Techworld is right.

[ad#ad2-right]
Andrew Storms, director of security operations at nCircle Network Security, speculated that the latest bugs were found by researchers using information disclosed in SMB fixes Microsoft released in October and November.[va Techworld]

According to my investigation, and I have been looking. I found a few SMB Vulnerabilities. One of them is CVE-2008-4835 and CVE-2008-4834. These two are capable of Remote Code Execution, and are Consider very High on the Impact list and all.

So Did people find these exploits or vulnerabilities from the last MS 08-067 patch? I would have to conclude it is a real possibility.

Although Microsoft did patch those holes this month.  I grow to wonder just how much these hackers keeping the IT professionals on there toes.    I hope people updated their system to prevent another worm because you don't want the worm like Downadup Do you?  I am sure there will be a worm or a virus that will exploit this in time, and I think sooner or later someone will use this just like the other one.

Blasting the Downadup.b/Conflicker back to the Stone-age!

It has been talked about the last few days where there is a worm hitting the computers who haven't done the Microsoft Update MS08-067 which was release out of cycle and still have some systems has not been patched.  It has also been reported that it is spreading around the internet really quickly.   According to Computer World:
[ad#ad2-right]The worm, which was first reported by Panda and other security companies on Dec. 31, 2008, exploits a vulnerability in the Windows Server service that's part of all currently supported versions of Microsoft's operating system, including Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Server 2003 and Server 2008.

[via Computer World]

It seems Microsoft has scolded people who haven't patched for the October emergency update. Accusing users of playing "Russian Roulette"  and scolding them for not promptly updating their system to remove the vulnerability.

Symantec Blogged about this security of this program and how it was a variant of Downadup.b.  It also talks about how they are seeing an even more increase on this worm that was supposed to be patched by people who use Windows 2000 Server.

[ad#ad2-left]F-secure did a post about Downadup/Conflicker and how they took an Preemptive domain block list for this worm.   They have also seen an increase in this worm and they are trying to prevent this worm from gaining ground.   Talking about this being a network worm, in more ways then one.  Some have even seen it being sent through USB drives.   If you have a system you want to protect you should stop autorun.

Here are some links to better help you get this worm off your system:

In order to remove this worm, you must do a complete system scan with any of the free virus scanning programs.  You'll need to update your virus database before you do the scan.  You may even want to try the free virus scanners tha are online to get rid of this worm.   These should help you get rid of this worm, but you must remember to install the update or you will get the worm again.  The MS08-067 Patch should be installed as soon as possible you can find the patch here.

Reviewing Roboform: Great Password Manager

I've had Roboform for the last few months checking it out working with it seeing what is the pro's and cons of it. Here's what I've found out.

Limited number of passwords for non-license (Limited to 10 passcards - login information and password) -- This doesn't surprise me in fact once I'd started using it I had to buy it. You see I've got so many places I like to visit and so many logins it isn't easy to track them all. This helps me login to each and everyone of them very easily. Although if you only have a limited amount of sites the free version will work well for those people too.

Defeats Key loggers -- This is good for those who have family members who use the same computer just in case someone installs a virus that tries to steal your sensitive information. Can be put on a portable thumb drive with use to a library or open platforms. This also will prevent key loggers from getting your login information.

Generates strong passwords -- This is a must in my field, I'm so tired of having to come up with a password. Now this is generated on the fly. Click a button and you have a password generated. Tried this out on several sites that would tell you how strong it is and all of the said excellent.

Works with Firefox, Internet explorer, and MSN/AOL -- Now being that I don't have a MSN or Aol I do not know this I have however tried this on Internet explorer and Firefox very easily. It works well with Vista no major problems. I have tried it with Google Chrome and it seems not work at all with it. I do not know if they will start supporting it and only time will tell!!

Backing up your passwords -- it is really easy to back up your passwords database on Roboform. Just copy and paste and your done. No needing to find a hidden Directory, Roboform Database for Vista is in the My Documents folder under "My Roboform Data" Folder. All you need to do is copy that to a USB key and no worries Roboform automatically encrypts the passwords so without the Master password you can't use them.

No need to remember Passwords -- Yes that is right you no longer have to worry about remembering your passwords all you have to do is click a button and Roboform fills the required input forms. It can be annoying if you use the free version because you only can save 10 passwords then the rest you will have to remember.

Easily speed through login screens -- This is the best part of Roboform because no more having to type in the site you need to go to login. Roboform does that for you without any problems. You just pick where you want to go and Roboform takes you through and fills the information in before you know it. I absolutely love this feature because You don't have to type in the place you want to go it will automatically take you there.

Roboform has several version -- Roboform can be made portable and also be put on PDA's (Personal Digital Assistant) or a Mobile Phone(Windows Mobile, Palm, Symbian, or Blackberry). This is great for those who need to have your passwords on more than one type of device. Keeps it safe like big brother still need a master password to get to it. It also makes it just as easy to surf to the important websites with ease.

Download Roboform:

To Buy Roboform:

I strongly recommend this to anyone who has problems remembering passwords or want to upgrade there passwords to the next level.  This will ultimately protect you far better than trying to remember all your passwords.   This however is a personal and this will not protect you 100% but will get far closer to the 100% than just doing it alone.  Remember only you can protect your sensitive data and nothing else can stop password stealing 100% of a time.

So after the fiasco of the other day, I decided I will talk about security and why you should worry about new websites that you have never heard of.   People are not worrying about there identity and keeping there identity safe.   You see whenever someone signs up to a service without thinking about their password being stored or even used maliciously.   You see when most people don't use more than one or two passwords for all there accounts and then you use the same password with a new website.  Are you asking for your identity to be stolen?  In one of my previous blog posts I talked about not having any privacy on the internet.

So How can you protect your privacy?

When ever I come across a site that I don't know about and I want to protect my account from being compromised I find out what I can from several places:

  1. [ad#ad2-right]Google -- Yes this is quite common to use to find out about what people are saying asking the keywords like is it a scam or what people are saying about the site?  This can be very useful to make sure I don't get scammed by a company for instants the Nationwide marketing scam.  Although this is really important when you get things that sound questionable.  This can be very useful with regards to keep your wallet safe.

  2. Whois Network -- If there is a site you've not heard about and have a question about it you can always do a whois lookup.   This is a great resource for finding out how long the site has been up and who owns it?  The problem with this is most people who have a website aren't worried about security and privacy.   So you make sure this site isn't a phish site or to make sure the site isn't being used improperly.

  3. Sitetiki --  a good site to do some research.   It's a wiki like Wikipedia but for websites and if they are good or bad.  It also has a spammer list for people to watch and make sure not to go to.  These sites are usually redirect spam sites uses for email.

What about Personal privacy?

With this I also want to talk about security online to prevent people from gaining access to your accounts online by guessing the password.  Some sites also like to phish for your account information and use the information gained to take control over your account so here are some useful links to help protect your account information:

  • [ad#cricket-right-ez]Roboform -- This is good for generating a really good random password and remembering it.  This will keep people from guessing the password and also make it easy to come up with another good password.  This will also fill out the required site forms that usually use to sign into website.

  • A good VPN Service --  If your like me and you have to use free wifi from time to time and want to make sure you have privacy on the net.  This is good for security on any open wifi network and you don't want to have anyone watch you while your browse online.  In case someone is interested what VPN's are used for here is the link to let people understand it better.

  • Perfect Paper Passwords -- This is coming from Security now Episode 115 and he talks about this to better help people make the best possible passwords.  Listen to it and it will help you understand more about security.

These are just a few ways to prevent people from gaining access to an account.   After doing some research on this and thinking about this in bigger detail.   I would like to make a public apologies about the fiasco yesterday and what happened.  In all truthfulness everything didn't seem right with the doings of the going on with website.   I also was worried about the twitter spam it was sending out as you started the service.   I didn't know until later that it was a real person trying to make a product twitter users could really use.   I have learned from my experience and I will work harder next time and not be so quick to act next time.   If I was the company that bought that site, I'd also offer a job to both of them for being intuitiveness on coming up with a really good product.

Appearently it's a Time/Date problem with the Zune 30 gig

There are many reports right now that the Zune 30 is locked up or frozen. I have heard people say doing a hard reset has done nothing to the fix the problem. I would have to consider it a problem with time/date because of them all locking up the same time last night around 2am or at least that is when the reports started coming in.

[ad#tim-right-free-cell-1]Possible Fix:
Reset the Zune (hard Reset)
Hack the Zune (Zune MP3 Player Hack)

Change the TIME AND DATE ON THE ZUNE FOR LAST YEAR

This is my thoughts on fixing the problem temporarily.  This shouldn't be done unless you know what your doing.   I have no zune but this is a technical issue and I know how people would like to get there Zune to working.   If this solutions works let me know.  These should fix the problem if someone can get it to think the zune is next year.  The other way you could Possible fix this is to reset your computer to next year and then sync with the Zune after you've hard reset as long as you disconnect from the internet you should be able to fool the Zune to think it's that date.   Just another good idea to get the zune to work.  Just remember if it does work let me know.

Viacom might be going to HULU

According to some of the news post people are worried about Viacom leaving Time Warner. Now Here's where Viacom might be going digital. What do I mean Digital, I am talking about going to HULU. If Viacom doesn't sign a deal with Time Warner, that would leave a space ope for someone else like Hulu.

So Viacom isn't happy with Time Warner, or They want to go IPTV. Some of the Headlines I'm seeing are:

These are just a few that I am seeing pop up around the internet.  So what does that mean to the internet user?  Well On one of there show's like Dora the Explorer on Nickelodeon will begin to stream some of the shows previews on Dec 29, 2009 for it's next show.  When you go to Nickelodeon Site you get this:

nickplea

[ad#ad2-right]Although this just means they want as much money as possible this does give Hulu the chance to start streaming this type of content easier and probably be able to sign a contract with them without much of a fuss. After all Viacom wants to make money some how. So what can you do to get them to go to Hulu. Email Hulu and tell them and tell them you want Viacom to come to Hulu. If this happens so many things will happen with regards to online media.

BREAKING NEWS : Microsoft issues 961509

Microsoft as issued an new security advisory about the possible way someone might be able to take your sensitive information using an invalid digital signature:
[ad#ad2-right-1]
Microsoft is aware that research was published at a security conference proving a successful attack against X.509 digital certificates signed using the MD5 hashing algorithm. This attack method could allow an attacker to generate additional digital certificates with different content that have the same digital signature as an original certificate. The MD5 algorithm had previously shown a vulnerability, but a practical attack had not yet been demonstrated.

[via Windows Technet]

Although Microsoft has stated in the advisory most companies are using the SHA-1 algorithm.  Some are still using the MD5 and should stop using it immediately.   Microsoft says there is none in the wild but you can be bet on it someone will do it sooner or later.  Certificate Authorities should stop using MD5 and go to a much stronger better Algorithm. This is what Microsoft is saying and they aren't providing much information for the end-user on how to prevent from using MD5 certificates on your system. You can remove the MD5 certificate manually if you are a system administor and want to protect the computers at the office.  Please don't do this unless you know what your doing, you could very well break your system if you did something like this.

Microsoft Knows about the SQL Bug -- KB961040

Microsoft confirmed some information about the this little SQl bug and issued a Statement in an Security Advisory 961040 and in it Microsoft said:
Microsoft is investigating new public reports of a vulnerability that could allow remote code execution on systems with supported editions of Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000), Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (WMSDE), and Windows Internal Database (WYukon). Systems with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Service Pack 4, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3, and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 are not affected by this issue.

[via Microsoft Technet]

[ad#ad2-left-1]One researcher, a Bernhard Mueller, is claiming that Microsoft has the patch available and ready to patch this bug.  According to him Microsoft this patch is done and isn't scheduled to be release yet.  I don't know when they will patch this but if Techworld is right it will be an out of cycle patch.   I am sure that if Microsoft does release it in cycle then it will be this coming patch cycle.  January 13, 2009 is the next cycle of patches for Microsoft and should be available at 10pm PST time. If Microsoft doesn't release the patch soon they will undoubtedly wait till Patch Tuesday.  In my previous article I talked about this to a point the workaround so if you are using an SQL server you need to do this work around.
