Why I do not click "Here" in emails and why you should to!!

tools4technow.com

That isn’t going to happen!!

It isn’t like I do not know what might happen, but before I even did anything I check out the link by looking up the domain which if you want to check out what I see you will see the there isn’t really a main site link at the top of the Google search.   Odd isn’t it, well I then looked at the urls that was after the domain name and I found:>

/-wqs-/generallaborer.com/Free/GetStarted.asp?aff=F7288B41-CC5D-4D08-B06C-FB03EF98DEFB

As you can see it looks to be a redirect to “generallaborer.com” with an Affiliate link that means someone gets paid for links that use that link.   You can tell that someone gets paid by the “AFF=”.   I also have my own affiliate links but you will know when I put a link on my site that pays me money when you use my link to buy stuff with.

Spam

It appears to be a scam or a way someone makes money when you sign up with a link to that site.   I do know know what actually happens because I did not click on those links.   I can only assume that it was a link spam and not a scam but I will never truly know and I am not really worried about that type of help from people who try to make money off you without telling you.

You rarely know what the links really go to from emails.   They can be masked or hidden and you could even get a virus on your computer as easily as you can get one just surfing the net.   It could also make you think your are logging into a site you visit often but in truth you are giving your password away to someone who will use it for all sorts of purposes.   These are the main I will never click on links without some looking up of the domain in question.   You should never click links that your are not expecting or from people who you do not know!   Each one of these should be a first step to prevent something terrible from happening to you or your computer.

Internet Security 2013 Scareware and You!

Interesting Story

My Brother-in-Law had this come up on his computer and he needed help getting it removed.  Some of the symptons were it would constantly say the file being executed had a virus and it would prevent you from loading any and all programs.   Anything you do with your computer whether trying to remove this from your desktop was a hassle.   I did have to do some things to remove it but I will talk about that in a few minutes!

Malwarebytes And SuperAntispyware!

If it was for Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware, this would of been even harder remover than previous.  I must say when I first install these a few years back, I didn’t know how well these guys worked and kept my system clean.   I decided to try these two on my broather infected system to try to remove this scareware.

Removal of this virus!

If you are like me you probably used Google to find out how to remove this virus but I think the virus makers are getting smarter because it wasn’t as easy as it was a few years ago.   They made it virtually impossible to find the answer with the computer you have that is infected.   So you have to hope that you have another system to do the searching for the answer of the removal.   Here is what I did to help remove this malware and scareware:

  • Startup in Safe Mode [LINK]
  • Login as Adminstrator
  • USE MalwareBytes and do a FULL SCAN, this will take a while and once done remove what you see.
  • Do a System Restore [LINK].  The Earlier the Better.

Once you have did those restart your computer then you should be able to install Malwarebytes to all users.  When you can do that you are basically home free.   Just install it again and do a full system scan, to help make sure you get rid of this scam and scareware malware.  Once you do all this, if Malwarebytes did what you needed, it might be time to upgrade to Buy Malwarebytes Now!

I really am glad I had a full version of Malwarebytes to remove this annoying little scam and scareware.   My brother is happy and I am happy.

Scare advertising hitting android Devices!

androidantivirusfree.org

I Think NOT!

I was doing some stuff and this little advertisement appeared on my tablet:

Phone is Infected, Remove Virus Now! (Scare Tactic)

As you can see there is a lot to this that you can’t really, even though I know Androids aren’t immune.  This seems to indicate the advertising of malware is on the rise.  So I intend to help those who want to be helped.  Let’s by chance think you have a virus on your tablet or phone.   How do you get it off, there are a few ways.   One you can do a hard reset and restore you phone or tablet to factory settings.   Essentially wiping all information from the phone.

Don’t install any 3rd party applications!

Use coupon code “Savenow15” and Save 15% off the lifetime of your account! One of my common rules is not to install any third party applications unless I trust the source and just because they look legitimate doesn’t always mean they are.   For example, the picture looks convincing enough but home site (androidantivirusfree.org) has nothing there which indicates to me that it is designed to install malicious software to make you buy there cure for their android virus or malware!

Although this is the beginning of this, I am just going to.  I have already talked about this in a previous post so I will just say this.  Don’t do anything without consulting a geek!

How not to be scammed by online dating sites!

It isn't always Simpler!

I'm not saying that it is impossible to find out for sure but there will always be times when you are going to ask yourself "Is this person for real or are they fake?" I'm here to at least try to show you how you can tell and how you can verify they are who they are.  I will show you some great tips and tricks on how you can do just that!

How was it received?

Having seen so much trouble with getting scammed, I thought we should at least look at how it is received and try to show you some great techniques to know if they are really who they are saying they are, or if they are just trying to get money from you.  These are what I call the Nigerian Dating Scams but some call them also the Russian Dating scams, which to me are the same!

  • Check the Headers -- There is an example but your main questions is how do I do that?  The Mxtoolbox blog has a great tutorial on how to do that!
  • Are they from Nigeria? -- Anytime you get an email with an Nigeria then they are most likely a Nigerian Scam but I've seen this in many  ways but recently I've heard from friends who were scammed while they were trying to find romance on dating sites.
  • Check the "X-Originating-IP:" or "Recieved: by" fields in headers! -- Finding the IP of the sender can be first step determining if they are legit or fake emails.  You can find out about an IP by going to Whois.net and putting in all the IP's that you find and seeing where that IP is in the world.
  • Syntax and Grammar -- Having seen this in emails past, some scammers seem to need translation services and thus the grammar and syntax on emails are off for your location.  This is a great indicator that there is something wrong.  You should always have a red flag go off in your mind when you see those types of emails.
  • Good looking females or Males -- Depending on who you are trying to meet on an online dating service, then you will receive hits with these good looking people to try to show you how lucky you were to be found.  This is another way they lure you into sending them money.  (See an Example up at top)

Identify some Keywords!

Just because you got an email, doesn't mean that you can't read between the lines.  Whenever I get emails about some of the stuff like this you have to read the emails carefully.  Some of the most common word to look for are:

  • Relocate -- If the email promises talks about relocations, then you should be weary of the person.
  • You've Won -- This is also a great way to know that you may be scammed, because how were you entered in the contest in the first place.
  • Someone is hurt -- compassion is something that the scammers, although you never know who they will saying is hurt you can expect them to want you to send money.  You should never send money to anyone to anywhere because you don't know what they will do with the money once they received it!

I could go on and on about all the scams that are being used in emails but if I do that you'd be bored to tears.  So I am just trying to help you recognize how and what to look for when you are dealing with email correspondence with another person.  One thing I always remember is "Never assume the person is real, until you can verify their identity".

Three ways on how to NOT waste your Money!

Another Job email!

I know it can be hard to find a job but this email from crmglobalresources.com was one of those that I thought I would talk about even more.

Here is what she said in the email:
Are you still available and looking for a new position? We were forwarded your resume and based upon your background and geographic location it may be a good match. Our Human Resources Department is currently scheduling company overviews this week for several of positions that we have open. I would like you to consider what we have to offer as a company.

We've recently launched a new Consulting Division and need individuals for Human Resources, Marketing, Recruitment, and Business Development. Experience is not required, although having a background in any of the above mentioned is helpful.

they also tried to have me join this web conference of there's.   I didn't want to  say this is a scam but every time I get these types of emails something just sounds the sirens.   I thought it would be nice for a change to tell you how to find out if a website is trust worthy or not.

Checking out the Business!

Having done this several times, I have come to use Whois.net to check out the background of the domain in question.   The site in question has only been made in the last few months.   No mater where your from you will always want to check out if a site is brand new or has been in business for quite some time.

While looking at Whois, I also see something quite interesting about domain.   Having been around the block and knowing about proxy security.   You get to wonder why this business would be proxying their address and number.

Let Google be your friend!

Never have a once not used a KEYWORD to find out more about company then when I am looking to find out more information about a company.   Never be afraid to ask words such as scam, pay, and whois.  Although these are just a few good keywords there are a ton of ways to find out information that you otherwise would never of found had you only searched for a certain term.

Nothing you put in search is ever going to be 100% right but it will give your more of an idea of what people and news are saying about this.   You can find out everything you might want to know about a business or website just by adding those to your search terms.

Check the website out!

Having been making my websites in the past, I know all to well that there are going to be people who may want a site template and just use that as their website and not change anything else.   You'll have to check out the site and make your own determination about if it looks like a template website with stock photos and words or if they actually put a lot of effort and time into the website.   The more questions you ask about the website and find out the more you can avoid being scammed.

After doing my research for the site in questions I must say that according to others, you will have to pay them money 199$.   That really isn't a deal in my mind and I suggest people go someplace else so as to not get ripped off by this so called company.

Achievecard in the Mail and they have my Social Socurity Number?? WTH??

As you can see Achieve Card sent my wife an unsolicited mail with this card in it.   In order to “activate it” You must your last 4 of your Social Security Number!!  Now I talked about Netspend doing this also but they didn’t keep the IP‘s of who referred them.   This seems to be the same way and I am very concerned.   I would like to stop these companies from getting my Social or my wife’s Social.

Don’t tell me you don’t have my Social, You just tell me you do!!

When I made the blog post about Netspend, There was a comment from Staff101 and he said they didn’t have my social but if that is the case with this card. Then why would they have the pin being the last 4 of my SSN(see picture above)?? Again, if you are going to comment telling me that you don’t have my social. Your gravely mistaken, and that really concerns me and others. My privacy and security is essentially something that I take seriously. I haven’t called this company because they are probably like Netspend and will tell me they don’t have the information on who gave them the information. I am not happy and would like to find the person/company doing this. This seems to be a continuing problem.

Should I Activate this Achievecard??

Well, I will tell you I am not going to activate this card because of all these problems:

Don’t Do business with: “Check Management Services [CMS]” (collection agency)

I recently got what I would call a Scam because they made me feel like they were REAL Police Officers and that my wife was in the court systems. I thought I would warn people about this company because of their UNETHICAL Way of how they get their money for claims. I have been tricked and to a point scammed to give them my money and I wanted to warn everyone else about their tactics and who they are. I tried to file a police report but they said that this is unfortunately not a crime because they used the WORD “Investigator” and not Detective in their Voice mail Message. I would encourage anyone and everyone who reads this and being harassed by these people to do a few things:

  1. Record your Call with them — It is however Mandatory to have tell them so they know you are recording the call, and get all the information about them. (This will help you tell people)

  2. Get everything in WRITING — Another way that will help in this message because you can warn others of this company who will probably change their Phone number in the future because of this blog Post!!

  3. Now your Rights with Debt Colelction — This is great resource that I should of looked at when this was being done but didn’t. I know know what they can and can not do! Read it and make sure you know your rights. Help fight this injustice by reporting them to the FTC if they try this on you!!!

Anyway these are some of the things you can do to fight back against this company. I know will tell you what I numbers and people I have found to help others who have scared us honest working Citizens.

Some of the People that I found to be with this company are:

  1. Chief investigator Morgan or “Lead Investigator”1

  2. Case Investigator Rogers1

  3. Investigator Mills

  4. investigator Tyson

  5. Todd Williams

  6. Lester Kincaid

These are just a few that I have found but If you get a call from someone else please leave a comment on what happened so others can find this post and also be warned about this company. Now I will talk about the Numbers that I have found to be associated with this company:

  1. 877-485-50402

  2. 877-499-94737

  3. 877-269-17451

  4. 877-313-44023

  7. 877-269-1745

  8. 800-825-81315

I did Find out about who this company is really:

San Diego, CA 92123

BBB.ORG about Midland Credit Management

If This post has helped you avoid giving them money and you would like to repay my efforts in finding all this information and posting what I have please consider bookmarking my My Site(Drag link to the toolbar to bookmark this link) and using that whenever you go to Amazon. You see they took quite a lot of money from me because I was foolish enough to think they are a legit and I want to warn people of this and try to get my money back. If you know any numbers or find a new “investigator” and you would like to warn people please leave a comment and tell us your story so others can be warned as well.

If you feel this has been help please consider clicking on a link and buying something, other than that thank you for reading this.

P.s. I tried to get the address but this Collection Agency won’t give me the address they also sent me a Reciept for this complaints: northerntier.agency@gmail.com Which seems to be Norther Tier Agency. I will do my research to see if I can find the Address but if you know the address I would love for you to make a comment or contact me!! The address on the reciept was:
Check Management Services
78 Webster st
Tonawanda, NY 14120

5 things to do when You get scammed and burned!!

I usually don’t like to talk about this but I was recently scammed by a scam artist who tried to make me believe they are Police Men and they were court appointed “Lead Investigators“. Suffice it to say that I found out two or three days later from friends and family that this was not right. After Googling the Number “1-877-499-9473“. Which if you are like me quite confused but thankfully I had other resources like what my Credit Card said and they said it was “CHECK MANAGEMENT SERVICES 716-6942500 NY“. Anyway I have already talked about one scam when it comes to cash checking.  I also want to talk about how you can tell if it is scam, some of the more common things t hat I find are:

  • Must Pay Now — These are scams that say that you can get something for really cheap, if you pay now.   This should always be the first flag.

  • Scare Tactics –  These are scams that try to scare you into buying a product or giving them money because something is about happen.   They try to confuse you into paying.   This is also one of the RED Flags.

  • Free products –   Here is another that I find because you have to read the fine print and see that you aren’t really getting it for free but trial and that you will be charged for the product after a certain amount of time.   This is another RED Flag, in my opinion.

  • Pressure Tactics -- This can be anything from constantly calling you to making radical claims about product.   If you have any doubts.   Always ask yourself “Could this be to GOOD to be TRUE??

I know I will have missed a few key ones but these are the ones that I see all the time. I know want to talk about what you should do:

  1. Call your Local Police Department and File a Complaint–  This is a must because most banks and credit card companies require proof that there was a crime committed.   By doing this you are fighting back against the scam and showing them you will fight for your rights.

  2. Call Your Bank or Credit Card Company — Now since you made the complaint you should now have your bank or Credit Card company reverse the charges so you can get your money back. You will have proof that this was illegal and the bank/Credit Card will comply with all Local or State laws. This seems a sure way to get your money back.

  3. File a Complaint with the BBB — This one can be tricky if you don’t know who the company is but if you look at your credit card information and Google it you might get an idea to where look

  4. File a Complaint with the Federal Trade Commission — This is one of those that you have a choice in how your proceed but this will help out when all else fails. They might even be able to give you more information about the company and help you get your money back. This is however just a guess but it is a good way of fighting scammers.

  5. Tell you Family and Friends about the Scam — This is also important because most of the time these scammers find you by talking to your family or friends. So warning them can keep them from getting to close. Although it will not always work, it does provide a little protection down the road.

I intend to file my complaints to all the above plus more to fight this particular scam so I can get my money back. I am sure this isn’t over by a long shot but I do Hope this has helped you in a small way like it help me. If you have come here trying to find out information about the number and haven’t paid them, don’t do it. Call you local Police and report them and still report them to as many places as possible to help those who have been scammed or could be scammed. If you know anyone who has been scammed maybe it is time to show them this article so they can find out how to get their money back.

Have a Good Wednesday, See you Friday!!

I get my glasses from GlassesUSA. They have a Satisfaction Guarantee and even Prescription Sunglasess for when your out doors. Give them a try, and I know you'll like them!

Please Link to my site emails

From time to time I get emails asking me to link to there sites because of one thing or another. I have no problem linking to sites that I think have valuable information, but when I get email to link to sites that are really new I have a problem.

[ad]In the email he talks about how his business got scammed out of 6,000$ dollars and how he just created the site four weeks earlier due to how out raged he is that his business got scammed for so much money.

As you may have noticed this site that still remains unnamed because I am uncomfortable with adding the link to my site. Now I won't say anything bad about [intlink id="4110" type="post"]creating a site[/intlink], and I am sure it was something like the [intlink id="1417" type="post"]Check cashing scam[/intlink] I came across a few months ago and talked about.

So I wanted to talk about how to get people to come to you site:

  • Submit your Site to search engines --  This is the first step to getting people to find your site.   Some sites to submit to for free are Pingomatic, Ask.com, and Yahoo.   These are the three that I suggest starting off to have Search engines finding your site.  All other search engines will come to your site over time.

  • Create informative posts --  This is also very important creating posts that people will link to your site is the most important step to building your website.   If you create posts people have heard about on other sites your site will not be put on the front of Google searches.   If you don't have links coming from other sites, you will not get any search engine visitors to your site.

  • Don't ask to be linked in the early stages of a new site --  That is just asking for web owners to ignore you and not link to your site.   if they see it is a new they will not want to support it because of the possible spam retribution that will happen with Google if they are a spam site building links.  This is why it is more important to build your links naturally and not beg for links.

  • Link to other sites --  This is sometimes called the "Buddy system".   Linking to sites will most likely cause the site to link back and sometimes throwing out links to sites also help you build links to your site.

Although these are just a few ways to increase readership and visibility towards your website population.   You can find more ideas and information ways to build your website at Seobook.com, which has some great ideas to generate links to your site.

Twitter Spam for Cari-weightloss

I was doing my usual checking out what people are talking about and I see Cari-Wieghtloss.net, Cari-Weightloss.com, and Cari-Weightloss.org.

Going to the Pages I see:

Cari-weightloss-spam

I already once talked about the [intlink id="3638" type="post"]Acai Berry Twitter spam[/intlink], but this talks about another product that is part of the Plan call "ColonCure" which if you look into they have had some complaints about them.   I even found more from the Rip-off Report's, talking about taking the money out of your account.  There are two links in this page that point go to these products.  They both come from the domain meet-google.com, which I must warn you is not associated with Google.com.  I did more research on Acai Berry but I will let you read what people have to say about that.

Cari-weightloss-spam1Cari-weightloss-spam2

[ad]Each of those sites have a clause where they have not be evaluated by the FDA(Food and Drug Administration).   Also they either say out right that you will have to pay for shipping or don't say at all.   If anything says anything about these companies until they have been tested by the FDA, I would recommend people not try these products because of the possible side effects or complications that may result in the combination of the two drugs.  I'm not a doctor but I can tell there is something fishy with at least on product and if I find one there will usually be more.

*UPDATE*

I have done more research and I am seeing most of these accounts only have 1 or two tweets, which means they are just bots.   I also see others who don't do there research because they want to think this will be a quick fix for weight loss.   There are some that makes me think they might of been hacked or got their password stolen.   I would message the person asking if they really put that comment up?  If they didn't I would recommend them changing there password!!  If I find out more I'll let you know!!

Cari-weightloss-spam3

*UPDATE #2*

Looks like this is hacked accounts.   If you see someone sending this out send them to my site so they know all about this.  If it is your account you should change your password as soon as possible and go back and delete those links from your twitter account.

More than like get-rid-of-spyware.com is the domain they are using right now to scare people into buying or install that [intlink id="3607" type="post"]Personal Antivirus Scareware[/intlink].   Although this won't help much with those warnings, in fact they will most like just keep hijacking your browser and send you to these pages.   Most of the time they want you to buy there Antivirus and try to persuade you by showing fraudulent software infections on your screen.  These types of software only make money they do not do anything else but to fool the person.   Then there are some sites that just try to alter the look just a little bit to get under the radar!!  You should never download or install software from these types of sites.   They most likely will have trojans, or create an even more scareware situation on the desktop.

More Personal Scareware Aug 9, 2009

personalantivirus3

This is going to be a short list but I am certain tomorrow there will be a bigger list:

  • bestpersonalprotectionv7.com ([intlink id="3607" type="post"]Personal Antivirus Scareware[/intlink])

  • personalfoldercheck.com ([intlink id="3607" type="post"]Personal Antivirus Scareware[/intlink])

The Personal Antivirus Scareware is notorious in URL Hijacking or coming up with warnings that your infected so you would buy there software or install there software.   These sites do nothing more than fraud because you pay for nothing and you install trojans or viruses in the first place.    If you think you have the software installed in your system and would like to get rid of it.   I recommend doing a full system and getting that software off your system.

Threat to System : Moderate

Advice : Do a Complete system scan and make sure you don't have any more hidden malware.

Each one of these sites have something they want to try to get you to do. Some try to fool you into installing software to "Scan" for virus but in reality you are just installing a Trojan. Others like to try to scam you into buying there fake product so they can make money off of you. In reality this software does nothing to provide any virus protection. Sometimes they even use exploits to install onto the system. These usually have Pop ups or warnings saying you have a virus. There might be even a Web browser re director to the site in question. You should never download or install software from an Unknown source. Also you should never buy any product without asking questions.

Threat to System : Moderate

Advice : Do a Complete system scan and make sure you don't have any more hidden malware.

Personal Antivirus Stash of Sites!! All Scareware

I went exploring and found some sites that are linked back to each other and here are a few sites that have the same "[intlink id="3607" type="post"]Personal Antivirus[/intlink]" scareware that do the same thing.  These are all just waiting to be used for the purpose of selling you the fake stuff.

personalantivirus3

Sites that are on this IP BLOCK (83.133.123.109) and are exactly the same:

  • [intlink id="3607" type="post"]purchuasebestsoftwareonline.com

  • buypremiumsubscription.com

  • ieprotectionlist.com[/intlink]

[ad]Sites with the Site advisers are:

  • [intlink id="3607" type="post"]ieprotectionlist.com[/intlink]

  • networksecurityadvice.com

  • [intlink id="3913" type="post"]browsersecurityinfo.com[/intlink]

  • [intlink id="3872" type="post"]securitybrowseradviser.com[/intlink]

And are all active and just waiting to start selling this fake scare at moments notice each one looks like either have or will be used in the future to host the content waiting for people to buy this fake product.  You should check out the other articles in this series and be ready for them when they become active.

It is time to install some [intlink id="2205" type="page"]real Antivirus Software[/intlink] and get these fakes off your system if your infected if not it is still a good idea to have them installed.    I would recommend [intlink id="3884" type="post"]SUPERAntiSpyware[/intlink] to help get rid of these infections if you have them or Keep yoru system from getting these infections.

Another Scareware Adviser Site : browsersecurityinfo.com

It looks like "[intlink id="3607" type="post"]Personal Antivirus[/intlink]" Scareware has [intlink id="3872" type="post"]another Scareware adviser[/intlink] on the same iP: "83.133.123.113"

browsersecurityinfocom1

[ad]It is Hosted on "http://browsersecurityinfo.com/" and Does the same thing the [intlink id="3872" type="post"]other Scareware Adviser[/intlink] does and sponsors "http://ieprotectionlist.com/1/"  Which is also [intlink id="3607" type="post"]Personal Antivirus Scareware site[/intlink] that is host to a few dozen places on other sites.

These Sites try to look like legitimate sites and make you believe these are real but My Advise is that you [intlink id="3884" type="post"]run SUPERAntiSpyware[/intlink] and Remove these scareware virus and other Trojans on your system.  These do nothing but slow your system down and stop you from using the system.  Some of these Fake Antiviruses have also been known to [intlink id="3876" type="post"]not allow you to use real antivirus software[/intlink] so you may have to do it from safe mode.

If you need help removing these spyware manually you can check this article to remove it manually.   Please check out my [intlink id="2205" type="page"]Malware resources[/intlink] to better help you protect your system in the future.   I have a few recommendations on my [intlink id="2205" type="page"]Malware resources[/intlink] to help remove these viruses, trojans, and Malware off your system.

Facebook games having Scareware redirect Sites

I was on Facebook Yesterday doing my usually just playing one of my games when all of the sudennly this pops out:

powerantiviruscannerv2scam

[ad]As you can see this seems to be another site which is a [intlink id="3397" type="post"]scareware site[/intlink], the site Powerantivirusscannerv2.com is trying to [intlink id="3607" type="post"]scare you into buying a fake antivirus.[/intlink]   I don't know if it was Facebook doing this or if I got the redirect cookie somewhere else.    Although if you have downloaded the program that they want you to install or even think you have this fake antivirus installed, Spywareremove has the information needed to remove off your system.  It seems they are going to use social sites more and more and you should be careful.  I also have some good resources like [intlink id="2205" type="page"]Free Anti-virus and Free firewalls[/intlink] that would help protect you from this threat.

Somethings to consider when you see something like this pop up are?  Do you have antivirus or a firewall?  If so, then you shouldn't be worried to much.   Always look to see if you can see if it is a webpage and not from the system.  This is something the scammers are always trying to do to get your money.  Remember these sites are not really a trustworthy site and should be avoided at all cost.  I also recommend using the[intlink id="2362" type="post"] Hijackthis software[/intlink] to look for these rogue softwares in your system to better protect your system.

Remember not everything is real or truthfull on the internet with proper research and understanding you won't be making those rash decisions.   Only you can prevent you system from being infected.

The behind the scenes of the bad guys

Photo by freezelight Photo by freezelight

Have you ever wondered how they find out your Email address or even find out your name or so called shipping address.   I've been wondering that for quite some time and have went researching online for the reason.  You see I've been getting spam email with my name and address  like this "Possible Check Pending [Last Name] [Mailing Address] Sender : Pam [Last Name]"

That email was a "Kevin Hoeffer" scam that advertise getting you money from Google, called the Cash Secret club.   Suffice it to say that the Rip of Reports all say this is a scam.  Seems they try to fool you into paying $1.99 and then charge an extra $98 after you give them your information.  The Domain that I looked up is protected by Whoisguard.com.  So I reported to them about this spam, this is a sure way to get off there list.  Reporting spam will black list you from getting spam because to there major providers.  That cost them money, if everyone did that the spammers would be stopped.  Although I think society as a whole isn't even trying to fight the spam this way they just try to keep it under control.  I believe that if 10% of the spam is reported then we are making the spammers and scammers  pay for their misdeeds.

[ad]So I went searching for the reason behind how they got my information and I found Email Finder, which offers people email address or it offers to find out all that is out there to find about the particular email address.  Such as Name, last known address, social networks, and it goes on.  They do have an Opt-out policy where you can request not be listed, I advise everyone to go check and see if your listed.  You would have to pay to get the information but I if you see the screen where they said they have found information that is enough for me to opt out.   Actually it only cost the scammers and spammers $1.95 a month to use this service so they are making money in the long run.  You should also do an SEO Search on your email address  in Yahoo, Google, Bing and Other services to see if your email is out on the web.

There is a FAQ file on how Spammers Get your Email address, I strongly recommend people at least looking at it because it is still quite relevant to today's spam.  I've also seen ways to Detect spam by using Bayesian filter but most companies now a days are using that from the get go.   Remember only you can prevent spam and from getting scammed, So do your research.
