“Look you were filmed all naked!” read the subject header on one iteration of the virus-spreading message, which is being sent automatically from infected accounts to the “friend” list for that account. Clicking the link usually takes users to a page that looks like YouTube, and a pop-up message advises the user to download a Flash plug-in. The download contains the virus, which replicates by contacting everyone on the victim’s Facebook friend list and advancing the hoax.
[ad#ad2-right]This is a good social engineered attack, they seem to have you download a virus into your system. I Keep talking about how you need to be careful with emails. I also suggest that you do a complete Virus scan if you think you've been hit with this. There is only one way to prevent yourself from getting this little facebook virus and that is not to click it. Some other things to consider if you found out this was a virus is to contact the person who sent this to them so they to could do a virus scan on their system.
It is always going to be something to be hard, because these people are using social engineering. It seems they are trying to prove a point, even Macintoshes can be vulneble to this attack. If you get anything through you email from people saying they seen you naked or got pictures of your butt, I'd suggest, not clicking those links.
[ad#digg-right]Some sources are reporting that Vista SP2 will be out in April. According to Engadget they claim TechARP is a bunch of Malaysian Kids that like to boast about how they broke the Vista SP1 and XP SP3 release schedules to the world. They claim though that Vista Release candidate is to be out around February.Microsoft has indicated that this SP3 will include Windows Search 4, Bluetooth 2.1 wireless support, faster resume from sleep when a wireless connection has been broken and support for Blu-ray. I personally think it will include some of Windows 7 features to better get people accustomed to Windows 7 when they come out.
[ad#ad2-left]Although this is speculation and no hard evidence I think it has some merit due to the fact that Microsoft has admitted in the past that Vista was a big Letdown. I don't think they can any more to damage than they have already done. If anything Windows 7 will be a easy Success if they pull it off in the right way!!! Although with WIndows 7 be leaked online there is no telling what will happen. I am sure what ever happens will be interesting to say the least!!!
[ad#digg-right]This is another Virus that is going around and thought I'd tell you about it:
Spyware.ISpyNow monitors files, network traffic, and keystrokes. This Spyware gives the person who installed it a Web-based interface with summaries of logged information on the host computer.
[ad#ad2-left]Now this one isn't to hard to figure out what happened. You have to manually install it on your system to get infected. Symantec has a great way on uninstalling this annoyance. I also suggest checking out my other program list just in case you don't want to buy Symantec Anti-Virus programs. Some other things to check out is:
This is just the beginning in getting your system clean. You have to keep all you programs up to date and one way I do that is with Appsnap. This little program keeps you programs up to date from Virus to Firewall. I hope this helps people prevent and control spyware.
[ad#digg-right]Podcasters and LifeCasters alike are not so happy with Ustream.tv right now. They have started to introduce there own ads overlay to where the lifecaster or podcast involved doesn't get any revenue. One such Podcast right now is Mike Smith, Host of the Miketechshow Podcast, and Also Todd Cochrane, Host of Geeknewscentral. In a Recent post from Todd, he stated he is going to leave Ustream.tv.
[ad#ad2-right]Mike Smith in his last Podcast talked about this subject and why he is really unhappy with Ustream.tv. He says that the ads could possible violate his TOS with Techpodcast Network. He also would like to share the revenue because he was one of the founding podcasters that started to use Ustream.tv. He's worried that there will be adult theme ads showing on his video stream and that He wants this to be family friendly. He's said before the show if he has to he'll go to other networks. Some of the networks that might help him out:
Ustream.tv is the one Mike is having problems with but I tell you this in case someone is looking for streaming media platform. These others I've checked out are decent and have there own look and feel. Each one has its own personality and server capabilities. So it will be a test on the next platform that Mike decides on! I provide these to better help people make the right choice and also let people know about Ustream.tv Not telling you about the ads. If you think they shouldn't be doing this, talk about it and Blog about.
The UM100c is No Longer Available, Please check out the Cricket [intlink id="3059" type="post"]A600 Modem Review[/intlink] Or the [intlink id="4523" type="post"]UM185 Broadband modem[/intlink]. The UM185 modem might be a replacement to the UM100.
After a full week of playing around with this USB wireless, I wanted to talk about it. So let's break it down into pieces.
[ad#text-broadband1]
Installation -- The installation of the USB was not to difficult. I did have to do some more steps than this: Install the Software, then hooked up the USB device to the USB port.
Manual Activated the Broadband -- For some reason in my area they had several people have problems with the broadband activation. So I had to activate it manually!!
After that all went well, I was on the internet just a cruising along. I did however wonder why I was getting such a slow response speed. When I went traveling I thought I would share some of my local results with you to better show you my speed. All these test were done at
The Percentages over the results are showing you just what my signal strength was when I was doing the test. Two of the 4 were traveling on the highway and the other two were stationary. I also know that my speed will vary along with signal strength, I know I have to be a mile or less from a tower to get 100%.
*Update*12/21/08
[ad#cricket-1]In my other post I talk about why I didn't get the speed I expected, but after I did the activation I went to normal Mobile Broadband speeds. I also now have been using the USB Modem for my main internet without any or much problems. I know I can't play any major online games but I can at least have the internet with me were ever I go. As long as you stay in the coverage area, you should be in good shape. . Like I Said I've used it in my area for over a 1 month and with the small little problem, the speed has been really dependable and I haven't had any major issue with connectivity. I've been using this modem as my main internet and have not seen any major internet and have not seen any of the cap come my way. I think they won't mind to much as long as you don't ABUSE the internet, for example don't use it for bittorrent downloads and you should be fine!!
Update 12/24/2008 I also did travel with my laptop to another city, and I got to say it was really good and how it did when I went from one city to another. Check out the report here. According to some post and forum talks around the the internet they are talking about the soft cap of 5 Gigabytes but that seems to not be so important right now. After all, they have to make money some how. I will update as necessary when I find anything else out.
update 1/01/09
I also did a video and uploaded it to youtube using the broadband connection. I had no problem uploading this video to Youtube. I've embedded it in this web page. See it on the bottom:
I also bought the [intlink id="3059" type="post"]A600 Cricket modem[/intlink] and I absolutely love this modem because of the things you can do with it.
Just got done looking at some of my security sites and according to SecuriTeam there are are several programs that have vulnerabilities. here are the Ones that I've found:
Google chrome is vulnerable to URI Obfuscation vulnerability. An attacker can easily perform malicious redirection by manipulating the browser functionality. The link can not be traversed properly in status address bar. This could facilitate the impersonation of legitimate web sites in order to steal sensitive information from unsuspecting users. The URI specified with @ character with or without NULL character causes the vulnerability.
[ad#ad2-right]iPhone Configuration Web Utility for Windows Directory Traversal iPhone Configuration Web Utility lets "you easily create, sign and distribute configuration profiles using a web browser". A vulnerability in iPhone Configuration Web Utility allows remote attackers to access files that reside outside the bounding root directory of the program's files folder.
Streamripper Multiple Buffer Overflows Streamripper "records Shoutcast and Live365 MP3 streams to a hard disk, creating separate files for each track. Runs under Unix and Windows." Secunia Research has discovered some vulnerabilities in Streamripper, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.
Amaya URL Bar Stack Overflow Vulnerability A vulnerability in Amaya browser allows remote attackers to cause it to overflow an internal buffer which in turn can be leveraged to execute arbitrary code.
These are the ones that I found and wanted to let you know about these so you can make your system even more secure. if I find any others I'll let you know!!!
According to sources of friends close to me, their seems to be a consensus that there will be a major layoff coming from GE. My source is talking about it being a lot of people will be laid off and that it will start happening in the coming weeks.
According to Yahoo Finance saying this "52 week change of GE is -50.86% from last year. "
[ad#ad2-right-1]Now last year this time there Stock Price was 38.38 a Share and now they are 18.60 a share. They dropped -19.78 over the year. The seemed to get close to the 38.38 a share on April 4, 2008 with making 37.56 a share. That was there highest this year, due to the fact that people were getting there income tax refunds in the mail. Also NYSE says they had a slight increase in July and Aug, that is due to the Stimulus package that we got in 2008.
Now I'm not a financial expert in the least. I just see what I see with stock prices. These could mean they are doing extremely well, or they could indicate that the company is planning on laying people off. I'm just trying to provide a background on why they might lay people off. We are getting to he point of becoming a Depression and no longer a Recession. What do you think?
[ad#ad2-left]In an email he sent to the readers of his publication, Jason Calicanis talks about having to lay off around 10% of people from Mahalo. Here's the quote:
We've laid off a just under 10% of our full-time staff, cut our overhead by doing smart things like renting desks (we have six desks/offices available fyi), and reorganized our editorial department to focus on freelance positions over in-house editors. The net result of the effort is we are giving Mahalo another year of "dry powder" (or runway) to complete our mission.
This is not to be unexpected after all the talk about the recession coming our way. It does however emphasizes the need for companies to consider there profit margins and accounting strategy.
Mahalo was launched in May 2007 as an Alpha test. That is to say only a select number of people were able to access the site and create feedback to the development of the site. As of January of 2008 it is in what we call the Beta test phase. Which means more people are testing it out and find out it's flaws to report back about where they need to improve. Mahalo's directory employs human editors to review websites and search engine results.
[ad#ad2-right]Saying that Mahalo is in Beta still doesn't lessen the fact that they are worried about there revenue model and expect a drastic decrease in revenue over the next 2 years due to the Recession still hanging over our heads. This is where it comes to pure talent and understanding that most people in the business has to worry being laid off for example Merck Laid off 13% of it's workforce. Most people know the dread and fear of having the possibility of a Layoff hanging over your head and it is bound to affect even the most stubborn person and independent person. It is going to come at a time like Christmas or the first a year and you will have to scrounge around and try to find another job. It's tough and I've got a list that will help you :5 ways to improve your chance of getting hired.
With this list you will be able to get a better grip of the future and maybe create a better future in the process.
Mahalo is still in it's infancy and will still need time to grow and mature and with this recession looming over everyone's head they will have quite a time making heads or tails of the future. So why try to create the future if you don't know what will happen? That comes with the territory of blogging and website that are 2.0. It's a hit or miss when it comes to people finding the best content and sometimes finds the worst content. This is where you as a reader have to choice what to listen to and who to listen too. I don't say that will be easy but it is essential in finding what you need at the time you need it.
If we don't do anything, this will be the last you will see of some of these big name sites. We need to gather around them and show our support, by reading there content and providing feedback if there is something that needs to be change. That is your power to help these websites become the best they can. So go comment on your favorite website, tell them something you think they can do to better the content. So why aren't you doing that now?
As part of our effort to protect the accounts of AdSense publishers, we have mailed a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to the payment address entered in your account. This PIN must be entered on the PIN Information page before any payments can be issued to you. In the meantime, your account remains active, and you may continue to show ads and accrue earnings.
[ad]
Well that came unexpectedly, Google actually is trying to protect our accounts now from getting phished and or/taken over by some malicious person. This is called two factor verification**, Something you know and something you have. You can also get verify through your Cell Phone. Here is what they said in my Email:
Hi,
In an effort to protect the accounts of Google AdSense publishers, we've starting using automated telephone number verification to ensure that your information is accurate and up-to-date. As a result, you should see a Required Action on your Payment History Page to 'Please verify your phone number' after you log in to your account. To initiate this process, lick the 'Please verify your phone number' link and follow the instructions.
Keep in mind that you have 6 months to enter the verification code. If you have not entered your verification code within 4 months, we'll start displaying Public Service Ads (PSAs) on your web pages. If you have not entered your verification code within 6 months, your account will be disabled and any unpaid earnings will be refunded to the appropriate advertisers. You can learn more about our phone number verification process at https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=32055.
So here's my take, you don't have to verify both of them just one or the other. It is going to be rather difficult that people get paid. I don't think this will be a big problem for most people, but I am sure some are going to get annoyed having to enter their* pin every time they want to get paid. So what do you think? Is this a good upgrade or a bad upgrade you decide and leave your comments. I want to hear them.
(*) Thanks to the Diggers to showing me I had a mistake.
(**)Someone ask why I capitalise the two in so I changed it!
(The Google Letter) That text is from my email no changes have been made except line breaks, so if there is an error it comes from Google.
So I been doing a little digging and trying to find out what the heck people are complaining about and I found some great reviews telling me exactly why people hate EA. They don't necessarily hate Spore or Will Wright, but the Security around The Spore game.
So In a couple of these comments. These reviews talk about Creating the creatures and All. I'll submit some of the reviews that I thought was relevant and let you decide for yourself. I would however wonder the one big question? Is Spore Worth the Money? Here's the details that I know of right now:
[ad]
You can only install it 3 times before you have to call EA to get an override code. (Although I heard rumors that if you unistall it, you will get a credit for an Install)
You can not Install new hardware or upgrade your hardware because if you do, it'll count as an install, According to this one person.
The game only allows 1 login per Install. So you can't have more than one character and one universe according to this person.
Part of the Copy Protection prevents you from taking your saved games off your computer and taking it over to your friends house, according to this Person.
According to Amazon the reviews aren't pleasant. I tend to agree does this mean there are going to be even more people pirating it because they don't want the DRM or Is EA going to send out a patch to fix this. I am curious as to see how EA responds to all this NONE TOLERANCE to DRM.
After seeing all these reviews of Spore, I tend to agree with everyone. I'll probably wait and see before I buy my copy. All the reviews however don't look promising or even makes the games look like it wouldn't be fun.
